Hey!

Did you know coffee was discovered by a shepherd?

Ever wonder what goes into making that delicious cup of brew that you can’t live without every morning? We have all seen a coffee bean and smelled that wonderful aroma, but did you know the coffee bean is actually a seed from a coffee plant berry? Did you know coffee was discovered by a shepherd who noticed how energetic his goats became after eating the berries from the coffee plant? Do you know how that seed is processed into a variety of roasts and flavors? Yes, the coffee bean goes on a magical journey before it turns into that divine elixir in your mug. After the bean is separated from the berry, washed, and dried, it has to be roasted. And that’s what we do at Lincoln Road.

At Lincoln Road, we are currently roasting Colombia coffee beans into three roasts: light, medium, and dark. Our light roast flavor notes include: juicy, sweet, citrus, melon, and tropical fruits. Medium is the roast approached by most coffee drinkers. Not as acidic in flavor as the light roast, and with flavors not as deep as a dark roast, the medium roast is well rounded in flavor profile. Medium roast is sweet and savory with sugar cane notes. Darker, nuttier flavors and slight hints of chocolate are revealed in the dark roast. Coffee drinkers who go for dark roast are drawn to its bold flavor.

Our beans are roasted a couple times a week. That way, fresh beans are always being used and sold. Beans should “rest” or oxidize for 5-7 days before being used, to ensure maximum flavor. We stamp every bag with the roast date, so you will know how fresh the beans you purchase are. This is a big advantage to buying local, freshly roasted coffee. Sometimes coffee sits on the supermarket shelves for months and the coffee turns bitter and looses almost all of its flavor profiles. Beans roasted weekly in small batches guarantees fresh delicious coffee.

Our freshly roasted coffee beans can be found weekly in our roastery at 211 Main St in downtown Pikeville or our online shop! You’re guaranteed to have the freshest coffee than anywhere in the region! If you’re interested in carrying our beans at your coffee shop, restaurant or retail shop, please email our co-owner and founder Ryan Jones at ryan.jones@lincolnroadcoffee.com. Lincoln Road will donate 10% of your first wholesale purchase with us to a charity of your choice.
